Do the (side) hustle: Quirky events keep local food, beverage businesses fresh

I’ve listed this article for two reasons:

  • Side hustle is an African American concept
  • I bet millennials arent the only ones who know enough to multipurpose their small businesses, to diversify income, support the community and enjoy the side hustle lifestyle.

But in Central Minnesota and in many other parts of the country, newly minted small businesses are turning to hosting live music events, painting parties, fitness classes and more to supplement their core profit.

According to Merriam-Webster, we’ve actually been using the term “side hustle” since the 1950’s, when it was found largely in African-American newspapers, but it only entered the vernacular spotlight in the past decade or so.

Buy Photo Crafting parties at restaurants. Yoga in the taproom. Shopping nights at the winery. Bingo at the bar. These days, everybody has a side hustle.
